Cashflow 101

Cash Flow Problems?
Are You Stuck Like This?
You wake up, brush your teeth, shower, dress for work, eat, kiss your family good-bye, get in your car and drive or take the public transportation to work.
At work, you read emails, make phone calls, eat lunch, finish reports, take coffee or yosi break, go to endless meetings, take notes, and guess what? Eight hours of work have already passed, and if you’re lucky, you can go home.
At home, you spend an hour or two with your kids and spouse, that is, IF you did not bring home your work. You have your dinner, watch some TV if time permits, brush your teeth, and go to bed.
When you wake up, you brush again, shower, dress for work, etc. and do the same thing all over again…day in, day out.
Month in, month out… Year in, year out…
How long have you been doing this?
Your work is usually your one and only source of income, and if you don’t want anymore or were unable to continue, the income would stop…
You are stuck in what we call The Rat Race!

You are selling your time, talent, and devotion to a company or profession in exchange for what?
A secure and steadily growing income.
Which grows faster, your income or price of goods? Of course, it’s the price of goods!
Can you imagine yourself running in The Rat Race for another 10 years? 20 years? 30 years until you retire… relying only on your steadily “growing” income?
“If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten.”
If you only keep running inside The Rat Race TODAY (without investing your money to work for you), you will be running the same race 10 or 20 years from now.
Just look at anyone who’s been there longer and ask if they are rich and happy, and you will see where you’ll be 5 to 10 years from now.
What’s the Lesson?
If you have read Robert Kiyosaki’s best-selling book Rich Dad Poor Dad, what is Lesson No. 1? It is “The rich don’t work for money. They know how to have money work hard for them.”
A lot of Filipinos have actually read this book and say that they loved it, but in reality, most don’t get it… you will still see them working so hard for money. By the way, he did not say, “Don’t go to work.” Lesson No. 6 is “Work to Learn – Don’t Work for Money.”
Most Filipinos weren’t born with the rich man’s mindset.
Our brains were mostly trained like this… “Anak, magaral ka nang mabuti para pagkagraduate mo, makahanap ka ng magandang trabaho” (My child, study hard so that after you graduate, you can get a good, stable job).
Most Filipinos have the poor man’s mindset. We were trained to work for money instead of converting our earned income to passive and/or portfolio income. We were not taught to look for investment opportunities or even recognize one even when they’re right in front of us.
To be financially free and to get out of The Rat Race, we need to move into the mindset of the rich, who lives on residual income generated by assets, which may be paper assets, businesses, or real estate.
Money But Low Financial IQ
When you receive a surprise cash gift, an expected bonus such as your 13th month pay, or a large performance bonus, what do you usually do with the extra money? I bet you’re thinking:
- I’ll buy the latest gadget or an expensive toy
- I’ll go out of town for vacation
- or if the cash is big enough, maybe buy a new car!
Sooner or later, you struggle again to make ends meet, working hard for money. You spend your money on liabilities instead of investing your money to buy assets (money working for you).
Money without financial intelligence is money soon gone.
If you are ready to take charge of your finances, you need to increase your financial education first!
The Cashflow 101 Game was designed by Rich Dad series best-selling author Robert Kiyosaki to increase financial intelligence while having fun. You’ll find out how anyone can become rich and financially free even on a small salary.
